I must admit I haven’t done as much writing as I thought I would, but as I mentioned in a previous post, there is a family life and working life that we have to balance. The good news for me is that I have just agreed a three day week, meaning more time at home. Yes, there is less income but three days still gives me enough money to live on – it is not my priority at my age.
Many years ago I had ambitions, and I was enthusiastic, I wanted the titles, the responsibility and the wages to match, but that tends to go with age, at least it did with me, I soon realised that there are more important things in life. If I worked a five day week my income would be close to £40k – I’ll settle for three days pro-rata pay, and a better lifestyle as that to me is the most important thing! I hope that doesn’t come across as bragging as it’s not meant to, it is just how things are, and I know how lucky I am.
I don’t suppose my lack of writing is helped by not listening as much to the news, and that is simply because it is bordering on depressing. Once again there is no anxiety involved from my part, and once again I am saying that is because it doesn’t affect me directly, and I am not in control, so there are no worries. My biggest concern once again is the speed of the growth of the world population. This year alone so far, the population of the world has grown by 66 million, a country the size of the United Kingdom, and it’s only October. My main concern is that this is something that doesn’t get spoken about. Yet everything that Greta and all the other activists are concerned about is down to the world population, and again, it is being ignored!
I could write about Katie Price, declared bankrupt earlier this year and presently on holiday for about the 7th or 8th time since January – and I ask why? If she has been declared bankrupt she must owe people money and how must they feel seeing her photo plastered all over a newspaper enjoying herself, even if the rumoured holiday at £1,400 per night is allegedly being paid for by the boyfriend?
She is supposedly trying for another child too, and I don’t get it. This is a mother who spends more time on holiday away from her children than she spends with them, so why have another? Sorry, I am no fan of hers; I dislike what I see as a person and a role model for younger women. I mean is the jewellery salesman so intent on getting a sale he lets them sit there without their face coverings on, but why do they think it’s okay to do it – because they will be spending a few £’s on a ring? I say ‘today’s society.’ But as always, we all have opinions.
And so every time I do sit and write it takes me back to the Corona Virus and what is going on, and the photo in the jeweller’s shop is how things are today, people not caring when asked to do the simplest of things! But look at these and look at how people are thinking these days. When the pubs empty and people gather in the street to play cricket, you generally know as a nation we just don’t care.
I am fed up with it, but I will always put my face covering on, I try to keep my distance, and I certainly wouldn’t meet at 10.00 pm to play cricket in the street, but that’s just me.
I wrote a rather sarcastic post about visiting my parents in Scotland, and how I can’t be deemed responsible to look after my parents in the safety of their own home, so I have to meet them in my packed local pub instead. Sorry, but in my opinion, it’s all wrong.
To Mum & Dad. Visiting During COVID
Let’s keep thinking about busy pubs, some of who don’t really apply the rules, and a lot of their customers don’t care, yes they should be responsible, but a lot are not!! And let’s remember that the Government state that we can’t mix inside as this is where the virus spreads easier.
So we can go to the busy pub and sit inside. Yet I can’t go and watch a football match, where the stadium could be set out to allow socially distanced seating (some socially distanced standing) outside in the fresh air. If we want to do this for safer measures, we must wear a face covering. Clubs must introduce socially responsible entry and exiting to and from the games, and people must comply, or they won’t be allowed back.
We are allowed to be socially responsible on the high street, so the economy keeps going but is it a case of not being responsible outside a football stadium – I really don’t know. Still, with any sport, I don’t understand why we can’t have spectators present. After all, I have been saying since day one that anywhere can open as long as they have safe systems in place, and I would say nine times out of ten, putting a safe system in place is not difficult. To me, it is about logic and common sense, and that is the world I live in. Again I don’t understand how serving staff, barbers and hairdressers can work wearing just a face shield as any germs will go down the way onto the food or the customer. A face covering would stop this!!
People are fed up, but that has been obvious for months now, and again, in my opinion, mostly started by Dominic Cummings taking a test drive to a local beauty spot to test his eyesight, and getting away with it. But now we have an SNP Margaret Ferrier, getting away with travelling by train knowing she had tested positive, Matt Hancock drinking in the Commons bar at 10.20! There is one rule for one and one rule for the rest of us. But I ask why we should bother if those elected into power, or working with those elected are not punished for their wrongdoings? Even well-known sportsmen just don’t bother such as those who meant the England v The Barbarians rugby match was cancelled this weekend, a game many would have been looking forward to, but hey don’t worry about anyone else as long as you got a beer.
Unfortunately, that is the way of the world. Nicola Sturgeon posted a tweet stating that ‘COVID will not stop Santa Claus this year.’ My question is, why will he be allowed into people’s houses, is it because he is a key worker because, at my age and the age of my parents, he isn’t? But then COVID didn’t stop SNP, Margaret Ferrier travelling so why should it stop Santa. If for this year alone he leaves the presents at the front door, I’m sure the kids will be just as happy and will understand!
Finally, I believe it is here to stay for as long as it takes to find a cure, and much of that is because we as a race or country simply don’t want to comply with the rules and guidelines. If we were all careful if we ALL wore some form of face covering, people who have breathing issues could possibly drape a loose cloth over their face from the bridge of their noses and have it free falling. We could all keep our distance even in pubs, restaurants, at football and cricket matches, in shops, at horse racing events and generally anywhere. And if everyone did everything that was expected of them all the time, maybe we wouldn’t need local lockdowns, fire breaks or circuit breakers or quarantine.
But unfortunately, a lot of people are fed up and adopting a ‘couldn’t care’ attitude and taking a chance because it is now known that it predominantly affects the older generation. So a lot of the youngsters will continue with parties and get together’s and play cricket in the street because they know this, and it’s a shame. If we all just tried harder and complied, maybe, just maybe it would go away!! And to show a good example of ‘couldn’t care less’ I have returned to this post the day after writing it. We went out with friends last night for a meal, and sitting at our table a woman walked past us whilst chatting on the phone, and it was clear to hear her say to whoever it was she was speaking to ‘I have forgotten my face covering, I left it in the car but I couldn’t be bothered to go back for it.’ And that to me sums up a lot of people in today’s society, lazy with a don’t care attitude. I wonder what excuse she gave to the staff when she walked in because if it was the same excuse she should have been asked to go and get it!
And as I write this I have taken my own advice, the clock is showing 3.40 am and I couldn’t sleep so rather than lie there with my mind thinking all sorts I decided to get up and add to this and watch some Sky Sports News. Not great as I had hoped I had my old sleeping habits back but it seems that is not the case!
Anyway I was also thinking I should just turn to crime and try drug-running instead to see how it goes, let’s face it they don’t all get caught, and if I did get caught there is no real punishment is there? No wonder people are prepared to turn to crime when the punishment is so soft. Again – I despair!
Thank you for reading and stay safe
