Elections, Brexit, The Royal Family and so many more subjects have not stayed in the news daily as the Corona Virus has done for such a long period of time, I would say the same subject hasn’t been in our news on a daily basis possibly since the Gulf War, more experienced writers and historians will correct me if I’m wrong – it is a guess, and no research was done!
But the Corona Virus is there every day, it is taking up a large part of our lives, and today it is because the size of a group we are allowed to meet in has now been reduced to only six people, and the question I would have to ask is – ‘is anyone really surprised,’ because I’m not!
The Government are having to take measures that were expected from the time Dominic Cummings took his trip to Durham because to me that was a turning point for many, ‘if he can get away with it so can I’ attitude. I believe he was lucky because the BLM movement and the sad story of George Floyd took much of our news time and deflected away from Cummings and his transgressions, or more pressure would have been directed his and the PM’s way.
So why have we seen this rise leading to the reduction of our social groups, well quite simply as a nation, possibly a race, I believe we have become blasé to the Pandemic. This is not everyone, far from it, but it only takes a few to keep spreading the virus. I was listening to Chris Evans this morning, and to me, he summed it up in one by saying something similar to ‘if we could all socially distance all the time – problem solved.’ And I can’t argue with that. I try to do the right thing, but it’s not always possible, but that is mainly due to other people, like the guy in a previous post who came and stood right beside me shoulder to shoulder with no mask and a couldn’t care less attitude because he was old and didn’t care if he caught it or because of his actions, spread it either!
So here we go, why is it still out there, why does it spread, well obviously people, but more so people who don’t care, or simply don’t realise. Yet, before I go on we have been living with this problem and the changes for over six months, some people act as if it’s only been about for six days, such is their ignorance to the problem, here are some examples:
- Last night in the pub a woman said ‘excuse me’ while walking mask-less the wrong way through the one-way system. I pointed out she was going the wrong way. She just shrugged her shoulders and brushed past me!
- In the same pub a couple of nights previous, while queuing for drinks the two people served in front of me turned to walk the wrong way through the one-way system, again I had to point out they were going the wrong way, this time they followed the system.
- At another pub for dinner yesterday, at the entry door there was a large sign saying ‘wait here to be seated,’ and people just ignored it and walked into the pub.
- At the same pub, a foursome of middle-aged customers had ignored the sign and sat at an outside table by another sign saying similar. They then ignored the ‘no entry’ warning at the pub exit, walked to the person trying to control people and placed their order. This guy did have his work cut out as he had to show people to tables, and it was whilst he was doing this that people ignored the signs and walked in – a good attempt at a system that failed because of people’s ignorance.
- While first in the queue and right beside the door, a younger man walked up to us and stood right beside me, I asked if he was wanting to go in at which point the gentleman trying to control entry asked if he could help. His response ‘I want to use the toilets.’ Not being a customer he was sent away, and in all fairness, the employee said similar to ‘do you mind, you’re in people’s space.’ Fair play to him I say, but here is my point to all of these.
These are some of the instances I have witnessed whilst on holiday in small towns, admittedly due to the staycation situation, probably more populated than normal holiday time. But this is over 2/3 days and are just some of my observations. How many more are happening all over the UK, at any one time in the same period? Let me tell you there are millions of events with people who do not care or don’t know. And if you don’t know and don’t understand after half a year of a different lifestyle, it is unlikely you ever will.
If you know one way systems and no entries are in place, which we should all know by now, then surely you should be looking for them whenever you enter any premise, a shop, petrol station, pub or restaurant. It isn’t your property so a little respect should be shown to the property and its owners. If there is a sign saying ‘wear a face mask,’ then you wear a face mask, health issues aside. If you want twenty people around your private house with no masks and no distancing and break the laws, fine then do it and face the consequences, including your spreading of the virus on your conscious, but I won’t be there! But when you go to other properties which are not yours, show some respect, please!
There are others, and I have added photos to this post that shows some non-caring people. Why have a mask and wear it under your chin, or not cover your nose?
Here are a few more:
- As we were walking down the street we were approaching a queue to a shop, so moving to the left to walk around the end of the queue, and as we got close, a guy overtakes us and stops abruptly to join the queue, and so within seconds is then standing right in front of us. If I had carried on walking I’d have bumped into him, but he overtook us, so why not wait until we had passed the queue and then join, why become our human obstacle?
- Further on, up a very narrow street, a couple had stopped for some reason but had stopped where most people would walk, meaning to avoid them and socially distance people had to walk into the road with oncoming traffic. Sorry but in my logical little world it was a bit of a silly place to stop, so why can’t they see this.
- Similarly, people on a narrow approach to the harbour just stopping in their tracks to check a bag without any concern that there are a lot of people walking the same way, and by stopping in those tracks, again they become a human obstacle, with no consideration to stay out the way.
Boris wanted to kick start the economy and whilst the news covers empty cafes and sandwich bars in London, he needs to widen his vision because in other parts of the country it is booming, as my photos show, and unfortunately with crowds comes the spreading of germs, I am no scientist, but I think I am in my rights to say that, and with the sights I see I am not surprised rates are rising and changes are taking place – again.
Was anyone else listening to the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio this morning? It concerned me because Health Secretary Matt Hancock was on and couldn’t answer what to me was a simple question. They were discussing a drive-in event (I believe a concert) and with the change to the guidelines Chris was asking the questions about what we should do. It got round to the question of can people at the drive-in event leave their cars. After telling us it was okay if there were only six people in a car, Mr Hancock couldn’t answer the one about people leaving their vehicles, and that is what concerned me – why couldn’t he answer?
After all, he had just been telling us that we can only meet in groups of up to six people, so surely if people want to leave their cars, they can do so, but only in the same group that is in a car and they must socially distance with other groups close by (face masks may be additional). Now I did say I’m no expert on very much, but surely that is the Government rules, so it is quite simple, so not so difficult a question?
It doesn’t matter how many clever, well-educated experts are sitting on a committee to give the Prime Minister his advice and to make the decisions. A minister for Common Sense might help to provide a different perspective. Anyway, Boris, I can be contacted using the ‘contact me’ option at the bottom of the page!!
Either way, the virus is being spread because a lot of people just don’t care, it is a shame because if we all cared we would all be better off, however, the word ‘blasé’ keeps springing to mind!
Thank you for reading and stay safe
