It is the 23rd of July 2020 and I don’t want to sound negative, I don’t want things to be doom and gloom, and I don’t want to scaremonger, but the one thing I am is realistic, and that will never change.
That is why I am trying to highlight what I think is the biggest problem that the world has at the moment, yes the pandemic is horrendous, and Black Lives Matter is a serious issue to be discussed and given some consideration, but the growth of the world population is in my opinion, bigger than both put together.
The pandemic as bad as it is and as heartbreaking as it is for hundreds of thousands of people, if indeed not millions, isn’t killing millions and millions of us every week or month. Therefore I can’t see how it will have that much of an effect on the world population which at about 3.20pm UK time today, turned over the 7.8 billion mark! Another reason I don’t believe it will affect our present population is that it won’t be too long before we have a vaccine and a cure.
The world population in 2010 was just under seven billion people, and so in ten years it has grown by one billion people, so let’s do the basic arithmetic. In one hundred years the population of the world will have increased by ten billion people, just think about that for a minute – ten billion people, that is the present population doubled plus two billion, and my question is simple – how will we cope? Because I don’t think we will, sorry but that’s how I feel.
I’m sorry again, but why are we ignoring this now? It is unlikely to affect too many people reading this, I certainly won’t be here to worry about it, my daughter possibly won’t need to worry, but God forbid if she has children because it will possibly affect them and definitely their children!
The thing is we can’t ignore it, and it is something I feel quite passionate about, sorry, very passionate about, because we are talking about the future of the human race here, the very existence of people as we know them, but everyone and I mean everyone, is just turning a blind eye to this problem and getting on with their lives, which means this does not concern them – sorry but it concerns all of us.
Never mind thinking about trying to find life on a new planet, it’s not going to happen, and if we did, we couldn’t ship enough people out to it to make a difference. We can’t leave this fifty years and start to have a look at the situation then, the demand on our planet will be too much; it really is that simple. We need to act, and in my opinion, we need to start acting now. We all have the right to be a parent, I am but only to one child, but something needs to be done about this population growth, or the human race will be its own downfall, it is that simple. Think about it!
Again I will apologise if this sounds negative, but I feel it is a serious problem, a very serious problem all over the world.
Here in the UK our Government has just (at the time of the original post) offered citizenship to three million Hong Kong residents because of the unrest there, and a very kind gesture it is too. But again I have to ask where we put them as we have no more room? Whatever we think that again is just the truth. Birmingham alone has a population of just over one million people. Where do we put a city three times the size of Birmingham in the UK, there is no room?
I am seriously worried, but does it affect my anxiety? No, it doesn’t – I have no control over the world population other than trying to highlight the issue to all!
As I add to this on 5th March 2021 please take a look at the new world population and read my other post!
5th March 2021 – today’s population and a bigger concern!!
